September 25th, 2010 Has another year really passed? I remember blogging about our trip ti Rheault Farm LAST year! Oh dear...well, this year the kids are getting a little too old for this place; however, it was a nice way to spend a few hours with them on a Saturday afternoon...see the sun shining? It was raining this morning and had been dreary and rainey for a few days before...we were going stir crazy! At the enterance we stopped for a pic:
Where can I get a "do" like this? One of our FAVORITE parts...decorating cookies!
Miss Savannah enjoying her cookie masterpiece!
I rather like these little areas they have set up for pictures! The kids were good sports!
Savannah found a pumpkin she likes!
Aiden did too!
Yeah...I had to ask Parker to do this for me...thanks Bubba!
Parker and his very FIRST hunting license! Normally, you have to be 11 to hunt, Parker is 10 --- this year, Minnesota opened up a special session for ONE weekend this fall where kids who are 10 are allowed to hunt as long as they are within arms length of an adult hunter. Parker is SO EXCITED...not necessarily to shoot something (in fact, if I was a betting person, I'd bet that when it came down to it, he wouldn't be able to kill a deer --- just sayin'), but to be a part of that "right of passage" and to do something special with his dad --- just the two of them. Chad bought a blind --- looks like a little tent with fake leaves on it and holes out the side to shoot out of! Parker can't wait to go set it up...which "you have to do at least 3 weeks before hunting so that the deer get accustomed to seeing it there"! Ohhh Bubba...so fast you grew up! And, by the way, I'm not able to tell you where they are hunting...shhhh! It's a secret!
It has been a part of our family for generations...I got it from my Grams and Gramps Nelson...and I LOVE the way it smells...like old books!
The inside is original as well And look what I found! Correspondences...my Gramps kept EVERTHING, cards, letter, you name it! I even found a dress that my Grams wore a LONG TIME ago...one day,I'll write a post about it...it looks like a little girls size 8 it's so tiny! There is even a satin slip with it.
Can you make out the postage stamp year? Yep, that says May, 1942!!
I miss them so much it actuallu hurts sometimes...LOVE YOU GRAMS & GRAMPS!! Thank you for the amazing gifts you gave me...and I'm not just talking about the trunk!
My husband is the BEST CHEF EVER!! Tonighe he cooked Halibut that one of the guys he works with brought back from Alaska and veggies in a tangy sauce --- grill style!! YUMMY, YUMMY!!
My SECOND Grader.... and my BRAND NEW KINDERGARTENER!!
Sweet little faces...
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton REBELS!
I practically had to run to keep up with them!
Have a good day, Aiden!
Love you, Sweet Pea!
Parker sneaked right by me into the building! I thought that since this is the 3rd one I've sent off to school, it would be EASY to watch her go...NOPE! Teared-up again....
I was ambushed this morning by this group of cuties! There I was, minding my own business at the computer and these stinkers, INCLUDING the Lund boys' dad, Brian came in the house and asked me if I would go golfing with them (well, actually just take them golfing as I don't golf!). How can you say "no" to these faces?? Not to mention it's one of their last days of freedom...school starts in 2 days!
Parker and his buddy, Nicholas!
The golf course is so peaceful...
Even Sweet Pea gets to take out her new PINK driver!
Comin' out of the bunker
Brothers....Friends (most of the time!)
I can just imagine the conversation they are having...
Cute bridge, cute kids
Figuring out the putting order
Look at these charming buddies! Aiden and Benny
Nice swing Bubba!
Whoo Aiden!!
Too bad the sun was so bright --- what a good day!
I found a new scent that I absolutely LOVE --- in fact, I could bathe in it! It's called perfume; however, it doesn't have that chemically smell, it's more NATURAL, like a delicious oil. The scent is Honey Coconut...lovely and light!
We left early this morning for Rollag --- Grandma Pam wanted to eat breakfast there!
Look at this crew!
Early morning...pretty! The kiddos, waiting in line for breakfast! It's a little chilly this morning!
We had to stop and get our walking sticks! The blacksmith even branded them for us!
The traditional pic in front of the old fashioned gas pump!
Waiting for the kids train ride...
Toot! Toot!
I love these old water pumps!
The horses were out today --- this one was waiting to be re-shoed! Parker has a way with animals...I think they know he has a gentle soul!
This one was HUNGRY --- Savannah was more than happy to feed her clovers!
Aiden's turn...he kept giggling because "it tickles"!!
SMILE KIDDOS!
Now it's time for old fashioned ICE CREAM from the General Store!! Strawberry---with real chunks in it, YUMMY!!
This is in the antique lamp cabin ... here you can see the old heaters...yes, even OLDER than the kerosene ones!
My mom is a Nelson!
Large wheel much? WOW!!
Where are we again? Oh yeah...ROLLAG!! Whoo!
Another successful trip back in time...my Gramps always used to say that it's"cool" for the kids nowdays to see what things were like back then, but it was REALLY hard work to live that way...I can only imagine....
