Pretty soon we are going to have a bunch of tomatoes and since our pickles worked out alright, we decided we should can our own salsa as well!! Watch out world, the Juntunen's think they are canners! Anyway, we don't have a recipe of our own so Chad thought it would be a good idea to try out "a few different ones" to see which one is "worthy" of canning!
When we built this house, I was NOT a fan of Chad's plan of having a butcher block....however, it has turned out to be one of the central pieces in the house that we gather around!
Parker is gonna make his own....this kid doesn't NEED a recipe! Looks like green peppers is a key ingredient though!
Aiden didn't like the idea at first, but when we told him he could make it ANY WAY he wanted, he was IN!
We had to boil and de-skin the tomatoes!
Our first completed recpie was this black bean salsa....it did not require cooking and was DELICIOUS!!
Now, THIS looks interesting! Chad is using "hot hungarian" peppers from our garden!
The other 4 recipes required puree-ing and cooking. The one in the back next to the teal bowl is my recipe....I pureed all of the veggies except for the tomatoes....I like them chunky! From left to right on the bottom is Parker's, then Aiden's (which, to be honest with you, was my FAVORITE!! Maybe was the added cilantro and the fact that it didn't burn my tongue out of my mouth!) and then Chad's. They were all very good and we STILL are not sure which we are going to can!! Well....that and the fact that we didn't really write down our recipes! Oh GOODNESS!
