FIRST HARVEST EVENT (s)!!

This morning, we got up a little early to pile into the car and drive to Fergus Falls, MN where our CSA farm is located!  We are about to participate in our very FIRST harvest event!  Well...actually, eventS because we are able to combine some of them so we only have to make 1 vs 3 trips (it's about an hour drive)!  Today we are going to try our hand at picking pickling cucumbers, green beans and broccoli!

 Here the kids are, ready and rearin' to go!  See the windmill wwwaaayyyyyyy back there in the background?  They use it for power on the farm!  We won't have time to take a tour of it this trip, but maybe next time farmer Mark can tell us all about it! 

 We were not sure what would be the best pickling size for cucumbers as we have never done this before, so we decided to pick some smaller ones and then some that are the size of the kids' hands.  We were instructed by farmer Mark to pick off the really big ones and toss them into the isle so the plant can grow new cucumbers!

 The kids are busy working away in the 80 degree heat!  It's even HOTTER down there in the middle of the plants!  We walked about 10 blocks through the field to get to our picking "section"!

 After picking cucumbers for over an hour....two 5 gallon buckets full later, that is!  We took our packed lunch to the "magic forest" located on the farm!

 It was SOOO PEACEFUL in there!!

 Aiden is obviously excited to begin picking green beans!  Hahahhaahahaha!

 After a full day of picking and exploring, here is our loot!!  Not bad for new farm hands from the city, eh!?  And the kids did an AMAZING job - they hardly complained at all...I was QUITE impressed with them.  Thanks for being amazing guys!!

Oh!  They also have flowers growing in between some of the rows of veggies that we are allowed to pick.  Aiden picked this one for me!  How sweet!  Can't wait for our next trip....I think we get to pick corn next!!
