Today was a WONDERFUL day for Miss Savannah! Her friend Grace was able to attend a pony camp this summer and found out they were having a DAY CAMP today! Aren't we LUCKY....she invited Savannah to come along! There is a company about 45 minutes from our house that raises horses (including Clydesdales!!) and has a really neat farm ~ they are at all the local functions offering carriage rides.
As soon as we got there, they had the kids make nametags....
Then they gathered for some "safety rules" ~ about being around the animals, how to touch them, how to keep clear of their hooves, etc. The cool thing is that after the safety talk, the kids took care of the horses first. They brushed them (not sure why Savannah chose to be at THIS end of the horse ~ hahaha!)
How to walk them (and how to care for their hooves)
Had to take a quick break to show you how HAPPY these girls are!! Who knew that learning about farmlife and how to care for horses would be so FUN! Not only that....but they learned skills that will prepare them for real life....yes, those New Yorkers are missing out on life lessons and they don't even KNOW it!
Savannah really liked the miniature horse she was assigned to!
I know, I know...she looks like a pro here, but this was Savannah's first time on an horse (of ANY size) and she was VERY nervous! She kept sliding off the left side!!
After safety, grooming the horses, walking them and riding them, it was time to MAKE THEM A SNACK!! There were oats, sugar cubes, barley, cheerios, molases and a couple of other yummy ingredients as well! After mixing them all, the kids got to FEED the horses and BOY, did they LOVE it!
By default, Aiden had to tag along for the event ~ even though he did not get to participate! He kept really busy playing with the dogs on the farm! He also said that next time he'd like for me to "pay for me so that I can participate next time, mom"!
This is one of the carriages you can get a ride on ~ one year, for our anniversary, Chad hired these guys to drive us around Island Park in Fargo....ahhh....the memories! Of course Aiden had to get in on the action!! I'm SO GLAD we were able to participate in this event (thanks, Ang!). Savannah told me that this "WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE, MOM~THANKS!"! Yep, that makes it all worth it!
